About ToddlerCalm™
Unique toddler calming classes for parents of 1 to 4 year olds. ToddlerCalm help parents to cope with toddler tantrums, picky eating and sleep problems.
ToddlerCalm™ offer toddler parenting classes that help parents to cope with toddler tantrums, picky eating in children, toddler night waking and other sleep problems. Turning stressed parents and tantruming toddlers into calmer toddlers and happier parents.
We help to stop toddler tantrums, stop toddler biting, stop toddler hiting, help potty training, lessen sibling rivalry and more - all with no need for Supernanny or 'Toddler Taming'!
ToddlerCalm help parents to understand their toddler's world and in turn avoid tantrums and cope with unwanted behaviour whilst encouraging more sleep for the whole family. We do all of this without the use of 'time out', reward charts and 'naughty steps'!
ToddlerCalm™ was founded in 2012 by toddler parenting expert and founder of BabyCalmTM Sarah Ockwell-Smith, a mother of four, and Charlotte Phillips, a mother of one, both from Saffron Walden in Essex. UK, in conjunction with Clinical Child Psychologist and toddler expert Dr. Victoria Montgomery, a mother of two, from Cambridge, UK.
Sarah's Story
ToddlerCalm’s founding director Sarah is a mother of four who initially studied Psychology, specialising in Developmental (child) Psychology, at University. Since then she has undertaken training in hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, homeopathy, HypnoBirthing, infant first aid and baby massage. She is also a birth and postnatal Doula (birth companion and new mother's supporter). She also enjoyed a five year long career working in the Pharmaceutical Industry in Research and Development (Clinical trials) and so particularly values the importance of scientific research.
In the past few years Sarah has grown increasingly concerned that the current Behavioural way of managing toddler behaviour (through the use of “time out”, “naughty steps”, reward charts and the like) as encouraged by Supernanny Jo Frost, Gina Ford, Christopher Green and the like can lead to longer term behavioural issues whilst not fully dealing with the initial problem itself. Sarah believes that it is time for a paradigm shift and for parents of toddlers worldwide to be made aware of an alternative approach to parenting their toddlers, one that is not only gentle but one that really works, with its theories firmly rooted in current scientific understanding yet mainstream and accessible to all - enter ToddlerCalm™
Sarah is currently writing an easy to read series of books about instinctive and gentle parenting which she views as an antidote to the myriad of "parenting expert" books currently available. Her first book, "BabyCalm - A Guide for Calmer Babies and Happier Parents" was pubished, by Piatkus, in October 2012 and a copy can be ordered HERE. Sarah is currently writing the ToddlerCalm™ book which is planned to launch in the autumn of 2013. Sarah also blogs regularly HERE. Sarah is a very established public speaker and is happy to present at meetings, baby and toddler shows and conferences as well as contributing to television interviews and newspaper and magazine articles.

Victoria's Story
As well as working in an advisory capacity for the development of our parent and training courses and running BabyCalmTM and ToddlerCalm™ courses and workshops, in the Cambridge area, Victoria spends her days parenting her young daughter and son. Victoria also works in the NHS as a Clinical Child Psychologist specialising in work with Under 5's and their families.
In her experience of working with parents in the NHS, Victoria has found that parents’ requests for help are often responded to with advice, advice and yet more advice. After becoming a parent herself, Victoria realised that parents are often overwhelmed with well-meaning advice but yet still remain confused and under confident about how to understand and calm their toddler.
Charlotte's Story
ToddlerCalm’s Commercial Director and joint owner, Charlotte Phillips graduated with a history & politics degree and worked in corporate business development, before setting up her own business at the age of 23. Over the last twelve years, her business activities have taken her on an international journey through motorsport, manufacturing, distribution and retail. Charlotte is passionate about business and thoroughly enjoys the thrill of making a great concept come to life.
Charlotte met Sarah during her pregnancy with her son in 2009 and went on to take Sarah’s BabyCalm™ class locally. So impressed, was she in the concept that Charlotte encouraged Sarah to commercialize the concept to thus enable them to bring it to the masses, and in February 2011 BabyCalm™ was officially incorporated.
Charlotte has always been passionate about babies and children and coming from a large family was brought up to appreciate the merits of instinctive and gentle parenting. However in becoming a parent and now a parent to a pre-schooler; feels that many modern day parenting techniques really disengage from the child and are effective for the wrong reasons. Charlotte believes that parents, if better informed, would be able to make decisions regarding their parenting styles that would have far reaching consequences for theirs and their Childs life; and so ToddlerCalm™ was developed.
Charlotte is currently developing and implementing a business strategy to ensure that ToddlerCalm™ can be deployed internationally and reach as many parents as possible.
A very established public speaker, Charlotte is happy to present at meetings and conferences as well as contributing to television interviews and newspaper and magazine articles; for business and entrepreneurialism.
